The Ayush sector has recently gained prominence due to the launch of five new portals – CTRI (Clinical Trial Registry of India), RMIS (Research Management Information System), SAHI (Showcase of Ayurveda Historical Imprints), AMAR (Ayush Manuscripts Advanced Repository), and e-Medha (electronic Medical Heritage Accession). ‘Ayush’ refers to the traditional and non-conventional systems of health care and healing, which includes Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy among others. Let’s delve into the details of these portals.
Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI)
CTRI is a primary Register of Clinical Trials under the World Health Organization’s International Clinical Trials Registry Platform. The creation of an Ayurveda Data Set in CTRI aids in the utilization of Ayurveda Terminologies to record clinical studies based on Ayurveda interventions. These clinical studies are researches that assess new tests and treatments and their impact on human health outcomes.
Research Management Information System (RMIS)
RMIS is developed to be a one-stop solution for Research and Development in Ayurveda-based studies. It will significantly streamline and enhance the research process by making relevant information easily accessible.
Showcase of Ayurveda Historical Imprints (SAHI)
SAHI is dedicated to showcasing inscriptions, Archeo-botanical Information, Sculptures, classical texts and advanced Archeo Genetic studies. It will prove invaluable in understanding the Indian Knowledge system, specifically with respect to indigenous healthcare practices.
Ayush Manuscripts Advanced Repository (AMAR)
AMAR houses digitized information on rare and elusive Manuscripts and catalogues of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa from libraries or individual collections across India or other parts of the world.
e-Medha (electronic Medical Heritage Accession)
e-Medha acts as an online public access catalog for more than 12000 Indian medical heritage books, accessible via NIC’s (National Informatics Centre) e-granthalaya platform.
Related Initiatives
Along with these portals, ACCR Portal and Ayush Sanjivani App have been introduced. The Ayush Clinical Case Repository Portal portrays the strengths of Ayush systems for treatment of various disease conditions. The third version of AYUSH Sanjivani App facilitates a significant study and documentation regarding the efficacy of selected Ayush interventions, including Ayush 64 and Kabasura Kudineer medicines in managing asymptomatic and mild to moderate Covid-19 patients.
National Ayush Mission
The Government of India has started implementing the National Ayush Mission (NAM), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, through States/UTs. The mission aims at the development and promotion of the Ayush system of medicine. Recently, a government notification listed the specific surgical procedures that a postgraduate medical student of Ayurveda must be practically trained in and able to independently perform.
