G-20 Currency Exhibition Showcases World Heritage in India

India is currently hosting the “Banking on World Heritage” exhibition at the prestigious Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts. This unique exhibit showcases currency notes from nations within the G-20 that display their respective UNESCO world heritage sites.

The selection of currency on display underscores the cultural significance embedded in each country’s currency. Among these, Indian currency notes are earning particular attention. These include the ₹10 note featuring the illustrious Sun Temple, the ₹20 note depicting the renowned Ellora caves, the ₹500 note with the prominent Red Fort, and two versions of the ₹100 note, one highlighting the majestic Kanchenjunga mountains and the other revealing Gujarat’s famed “Rani Ki Vav” stepwell.

This event underlines the essential concept that every piece of currency carries a fragment of its originating country’s cultural heritage. The G-20 itself consists of 19 countries along with the European Union, each of which proudly exhibits their UNESCO world heritage sites on their respective currency notes.
