In recent news, the Government has approved the extension of the Immigration Visa Foreigners Registration Tracking (IVFRT) Scheme. The Scheme is now set to continue until the 31st March 2026. During this extended period, a financial outlay of Rs.1,364.88 crore will facilitate the functioning of the system.

Details on the IVFRT Scheme

The IVFRT Scheme is a comprehensive system that seeks to streamline functions related to immigration, visa issuance, registration of foreigners, and their tracking while in the country. It is designed with the primary aim of modernizing and upgrading immigration and visa services. Providing a digital avenue for these processes, it aligns with the global trend of digitization.

Inclusion in the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP)

Recognizing its immense benefits, the IVFRT has been included as one of the Mission Mode Projects under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). This inclusion was spearheaded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, acknowledging the IVFRT’s role in promoting efficiency and transparency.

Reach and Impact of the IVFRT Scheme

At present, the IVFRT Scheme extends to 192 Indian missions worldwide. This coverage includes 108 Immigration Check Posts within India, 12 Foreigners Regional Registration Officer offices, and over 700 Foreigners Registration Officers. These officers represent various ranks including Superintendents of Police/Deputy Commissioners of Police across the nation.

Growth Post-Commencement of IVFRT

Data shows that the issuance numbers grew from 44.43 lakh in 2014 to 64.59 lakh in 2019. This growth represents a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.7% indicating a productive impact of the IVFRT scheme.
