The announcement was celebrated and welcomed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Culture Minister G. Kishen Reddy. In Kozhikode, Mayor Beena Philip expressed her joy, attributing the recognition to the relentless efforts of the city’s people, writers, journalists, and local libraries. Kozhikode is home to over 500 public libraries, making it a city with a rich literary heritage.
Gwalior, renowned for its Gwalior Gharana and association with legendary musicians like Baiju Bawra and Tansen, has been acknowledged for its contributions to Indian classical music. The city has been a popular destination for learning classical music in the Guru-Shishya Parampara.
