A significant security breach has been reported at the Idukki Dam, a double curvature arch dam spanning the Periyar River in Kerala, India. The dam, situated between the Kuravan and Kurathi granite hills, is among Asia’s tallest arch dams. The Periyar River, often referred to as the “Lifeline of Kerala,” originates from the Western Ghats’ Sivagiri Hills and flows through the Periyar National Park before reaching Periyar Lake. It eventually feeds into Vembanad Lake and the Arabian Sea. The river is nourished by several major tributaries, including Muthirapuzha, Mullayar, Cheruthoni, Perinjankutti, and Edamala rivers.
