Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Bombay has once again assured its place as the premier educational institution in India. For two consecutive years now, IIT-Bombay has been declared as the country’s top university according to the QS World University Rankings for 2020. With an impressive international rank of 152, it is closely followed by other distinguished Indian institutions like IIT Delhi and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, which have marked their global positions at 182 and 184 respectively.

An annual publication of university rankings, QS World University Rankings has established a reputation of being a reliable and comprehensive measure of global university performance. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) clinched the coveted top position for the eighth year in a row. This ranking system, managed by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, not only provides overall global ranks but also offers individual subject rankings.

This year’s rankings observed the presence of 23 Indian universities in the top 1,000 band. Besides IIT-Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IISc Bengaluru, others who made their mark within the top 500 include IIT-Madras (271), IIT-Kharagpur (281), IIT- Kanpur (291), IIT-Roorkee (383), University of Delhi (474) and IIT-Guwahati (491). It’s noteworthy that while most are public universities, five privately funded institutions have also made their way into these prestigious rankings.
