During the challenging period of independence, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had the daunting task of persuading many princely states to align with the Indian Union.

The women in Bardoli were so inspired by his leadership qualities that they bestowed upon him the title ‘Sardar’, which means ‘a Chief or a Leader’ in English.
