India Commemorates World Student’s Day 2023

World Student’s Day, celebrated every year on October 15, is an international acknowledgement of the value and importance of education. Established in 2010, it marks the birth anniversary of the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, a great teacher, eminent scientist, and accomplished statesman.

World Student’s Day and its Relevance

World Student’s Day commemorates Dr. Abdul Kalam’s immense contribution to the field of education and his unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds. His tenure as the 11th president of India (2002-2007) bore witness to this dedication. The 2023 theme for World Student’s Day is “FAIL: First Attempt in Learning,” a phrase coined by Dr. Kalam to encourage resilience in times of failure.

Coastal Security Exercise-East Coast Sagar Kavach 2023

The Indian Navy conducted Coastal Security Exercise Sagar Kavach 02/23 in 2023, engaging all maritime security agencies across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The exercise was closely monitored at the Joint Operations Centre (East) in Visakhapatnam, the central hub for coastal security operations. The stringent security measures and aerial surveillance via Dornier aircraft and helicopters ensured comprehensive coverage. Insights drawn from this exercise will be used to bolster India’s coastal security architecture.

World Food Day: A Global Commitment to Food Security

Initiated on October 16, 1945, World Food Day celebrates the establishment of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). Every year, the focus lies squarely on ensuring global food security, a critical aspect of human rights. The theme for World Food Day 2023 tallies, “Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind,” underscoring the Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) – Zero Hunger. Heidi Kühn was awarded the World Food Prize 2023 by the World Food Prize Foundation for her revolutionary farming-focused development model, geared towards revitalizing farmland and bolstering food security after devastating conflict.

Inclusion of New Sports in Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (LA28)

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), during its session convened in Mumbai, accepted the proposal from the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) to incorporate five new sports – T20 Cricket, Baseball/Softball, Flag Football, Lacrosse, and Squash. Established in 1894, IOC functions as a guardian for the Olympic Games, with its base in Lausanne, Switzerland, also known as the Olympic Capital. It operates as a not-for-profit international organization, funded entirely through private sources.
