India Launches Global Cancer Care Network NCG-Vishwam 3C

In the sphere of global healthcare, a considerable stride was made at the 63rd general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as India announces the launch of a worldwide initiative for cancer care, the “NCG-Vishwam Cancer Care Connect” (NCG-Vishwam 3C). This revolutionary network aims to bring together hospitals and cancer care institutes from around the world, assimilating them into the Indian National Cancer Grid (NCG).

NCG-Vishwam – A Global Initiative for Universal Cancer Care

Aimed at creating a global framework of standardized cancer care, NCG-Vishwam is backed by the National Cancer Grid (NCG) of India, which is managed by Tata Memorial Centre (TMC). The term ‘Vishwam’ originates from Sanskrit and signifies ‘universal’ or ‘global’.

NCG was initiated in 2012 with the objective of standardizing cancer care across India. It has now evolved into a robust network encompassing 183 cancer centres and hospitals. With the launch of NCG-Vishwam, this network aims to expand beyond national boundaries. The involvement of international partners will help facilitate a comprehensive and standardized system of cancer care across the globe.

Shortly after its announcement, NCG-Vishwam received acknowledgement and interest from eleven countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Nepal, and the UAE.

International Atomic Energy Agency – Promoting Peace and Development through Nuclear Technologies

Recognized as the global “Atoms for Peace and Development” organization within the United Nations family, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is a pacesetter in promoting international cooperation within the nuclear field. It works closely with its Member States and a multitude of global partners to advocate safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.

The IAEA came into existence in 1957 as the world grappled with the vast potential and inherent risks of nuclear technology. An independent international organization, the IAEA’s headquarters are located in Vienna, Austria. Annually, it reports to the UN General Assembly and, when needed, also to the UN Security Council, particularly in cases of non-compliance with safeguards and security obligations by its members.

Global Reception of NCG-Vishwam

The global reception of NCG-Vishwam has been welcoming and positive. Multiple countries have shown interest and intend to integrate with this network. Uniting global resources and expertise to create a standardized, comprehensive cancer care system is undoubtedly an ambitious endeavor. However, with global collaboration and continued efforts, NCG-Vishwam could revolutionize the delivery of cancer treatments worldwide and bring us a step closer to conquering this global health challenge.
