Ancient Whale Redefining Marine Giants: Perucetus Colossus

The colossal whale from Peru, named Perucetus colossus, has radically altered our understanding of marine giants. Recent findings published in Nature detail this creature’s astounding characteristics, contributing substantially to our knowledge of marine mammal gigantism. The partial skeleton of P. colossus, estimated to be around 39 million years old, was discovered in Southern Peru. It beat the blue whale in weight despite being shorter, marking a new level of bone mass increase and suggesting that marine mammal gigantism might have originated earlier than previously thought.

The Journey of Chandrayaan-3 to Lunar Orbit

India’s ambitious lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, entered the lunar orbit after 23 days of departure from Earth. This mission, which took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota on July 14, 2023, at 2:35 pm, marks India’s third lunar expedition and second attempt at a soft moon landing. Celebrating the Artistry of Weaving on National Handloom Day

National Handloom Day, observed every year on August 7, is a tribute to the artistry and skills of the weaving community. First celebrated in 2015, this day is a testament to indigenous industries, particularly the handloom sector, aligning with the objectives of the Swadeshi Movement launched on August 7, 1905. The theme for National Handloom Day 2023, “Handlooms for Sustainable Fashion”, drives home the focus on sustainability in the fashion industry.
