The Inception of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre

The plan to establish the I4C was approved in October 2018, intended to address all forms of cybercrimes in an efficient and coordinated manner. This comprehensive platform consists of seven key elements:

– National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit

With consent from 15 States and Union Territories, there are plans underway to set up Regional Cyber Crime Coordination Centres under the auspices of I4C. The primary Command Centre is situated in New Delhi.

National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal: A Citizen-Centric Initiative

The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal is a significant innovation focusing on enabling individuals to report cybercrimes online. All filed complaints will be reviewed by respective law enforcement agencies for necessary action according to law.

This portal pays special attention to cybercrimes against women and children. It aims at combatting child pornography, child sex abuse material, online content connected with rapes/gang rapes. Additionally, the portal is designed to cater to other forms of cybercrimes such as financial crimes and crimes associated with social media like cyber stalking, cyberbullying, amongst others.

Operational History and Future Goals

The portal initiated its operations on a pilot basis on 30th August 2019. The intention behind this platform is to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies for effective investigation and successful case resolution. This can be accomplished by improving coordination among different state, district, and police station level law enforcement agencies.
