Indian PM Honors Mahatma Gandhi on 72nd Death Anniversary

India recently commemorated the 72nd death anniversary of its beloved figure, Mahatma Gandhi. The current Prime Minister of India took part in the remembrance ceremonies at Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi. This event happens annually on Martyr’s Day which is celebrated on January 30th to honour the contributions and sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi for his nation. A similar tribute is paid on March 23rd in respect of three Indian revolutionaries – Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar.

Mahatma Gandhi’s Life and Achievements

Born as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi left an indelible mark on Indian history till his unfortunate demise on January 30, 1948, at Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi. Tragically assassinated by Nathuram Godse at the Birla House during his evening prayers, Gandhi was a multi-faceted personality – he was a lawyer, politician, social activist, writer besides being the inspirational leader of the nationalist movement against British colonial rule in India.
