Indrayani River

Indrayani River

The Indrayani River , which rises in Kurvande village, is situated close to a hill station called Lonavla in Maharashtra’s Sahyadri mountains. Recently, a thick layer of toxic foam was witnessed on the surface of the Indrayani River. This has raised concerns among the local residents and devotees of the Warkari community.

The Indrayani River flows east via the Hindu pilgrimage centres of Dehu and Alandi to meet the Bhima River. It is seen as a holy river and is associated with religious figures like Sant Tukaram and Dnyaneshwar. This river mostly flows north of Pune. It hosts a hydroelectric dam called Valvan Dam at Kamshet.
