IREDA Unveils CSR Portal

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has introduced a groundbreaking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) portal. This initiative aims to enhance transparency in CSR efforts. The launch event coincided with the closing ceremony of “Vigilance Awareness Week 2023” which took place from 30th October to 5th November, at the organization’s registered office in Delhi. The theme, “Say No to Corruption; Commit to the Nation”, sought to combat corruption by fostering a corruption-free work environment. The newly launched portal will boost transparency in processing and disposing of CSR inquiries from multiple entities.

IREDA, a Mini Ratna (Category – I) Government of India enterprise, functions under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s administrative control.

Decoding the Colour Spectrum of Fluorescent Lamps

Frequently, fluorescent lamps are labelled with identifiers like 6500K, signifying the correlated colour temperature that highlights the light spectrum emitted by the lamp. Correlated colour temperature mimics the light’s spectral distribution, comparable to that of a black body heated to the mentioned temperature. At 6500K, the light emitted resembles cool daylight.

Fluorescent tubes fall into three categories based on their colour appearance: daylight white (above 5,000K), neutral white (4,000K), and warm white (below 3,300K). Their specific colour stems from the fluorescent coatings inside the tube, which typically include tri-phosphor (emitting sunlight-like yellow light), standard phosphor, and multi-phosphor.

Russia’s Exit From Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

Russia has recently announced its withdrawal from the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The CTBT prohibits all nuclear detonations, irrespective of their military or civilian purpose, across all environments. The treaty was negotiated at the Geneva Conference on Disarmament in 1994 and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

Of the 187 states, including Russia and the United States, that signed the CTBT, eight, including the United States, have not ratified it and hence it remains unenforced. India is among the countries yet to sign the treaty.
