Cyclone Midhili: A Recent Natural Phenomenon
Nature’s fury was recently on display with the arrival of Cyclone Midhili. Originating from a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, the storm was named by the Maldives. However, it experienced a downgrading from a “deep depression” to a “depression” after making landfall on the Bangladesh coast, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The difference in these classifications lies predominantly in the extent of sustained wind speeds associated with the storm. Cyclonic storms typically have a maximum sustained wind speed of 62-88 kmph, escalating to a severe cyclonic storm if the speed reaches 89-117 kmph.
