The First District Development Council (DDC) Election of J&K has concluded now. The counting of voting will be done on December 22. This was the first election in J&K after being divided into two Union Territories- J&K and Ladakh.

- The first-ever District Development Council (DDC) election was commenced on November 28.

- The first phase of DDC elections recorded 51.76% polling wherein 25 constituencies in Kashmir and 18 constituencies in Jammu went for the poll.
- In the first phase of DDC elections, a heavy voter turnout was recorded in Jammu at 64.2%.
- The other phases were conducted on December 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16 and 19 and recorded a polling of 62%, 50.53%, 50.08%, 51.20%, 51.51%, 57.22% and 40% respectively.
- The overall voter turnout in all the phases was nearly 51%.
- The voter turnout in Jammu in the second phase was 65.54%, 68.88 in the third, 69.31 in fourth, 66.67% in the fifth, 68.56% in the sixth, and the highest 71.93% in the seventh phase.
- A voter turnout of 40.65% was witnessed in the 10 districts in the Kashmir Division in the first phase. It was 33.34% in the second phase, 31.61% in the third, 31.95% in the fourth, 33.57% in the fifth, 31.55% in the sixth, and 39.52% in the seventh phase.
Division of J&K
In 2020, the central government divided the Jammu and Kashmir state into two Union Territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Jammu and Kashmir UT have a legislature while Ladakh does not have any legislature like Chandigarh.
