The Quality Council of India’s (QCI) recent survey of clean railway stations has declared Jodhpur and Marwar in Rajasthan as the cleanest. The survey covered 407 major railway stations, including 75 A1 category stations and 332 A category stations. In the previous surveys, the first was conducted by IRCTC, followed by QCI for the second and third. Cleanliness criteria included clean toilets on platforms, clean tracks, and the availability of dustbins at stations.
Cleanliness Rankings
The survey ranked stations based on their cleanliness and maintenance, with Jaipur securing the second rank, followed by Tirupati at the third spot. Mathura railway station, a significant hub due to its proximity to the Krishna temple, received the lowest cleanliness rank among the 75 major stations surveyed. However, policymakers in Railways noted an improvement in overall cleanliness at stations compared to the previous year, 2017.
Top Zones for Cleanliness
The survey also classified railway zones based on cleanliness levels, with North Western Railway (NWR) topping the list. South Central Railway (SCR) and East Coast Railway (ECR) followed closely at second and third place, respectively.
About Quality Council of India
The Quality Council of India is a government initiative set up in 1997 in partnership with the Indian industry. The Council’s primary role is to establish and operate the National Accreditation Structure (NAS) for conformity assessment bodies and provide accreditations in sectors such as health, education, and quality promotion.
Moreover, the QCI promotes quality standards related to Quality Management Systems, Food Safety Management Systems, Product Certification, and Inspection Bodies. These standards are facilitated through the accreditation services offered by the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB).
Industry Representation in QCI
The QCI includes representation from three leading industry associations: ASSOCHAM, CII, and FICCI. These associations help ensure that the Quality Council continues to uphold and promote the highest standards of quality across various sectors within India’s industry.
