Kampala Ministerial Declaration on Migration, Environment, and Climate Change (KDMECC)

48 African nations have unanimously adopted the Kampala Ministerial Declaration on Migration, Environment, and Climate Change (KDMECC) to confront the interconnection between human movement and climate shifts across the continent. Initiated by 15 African states in July 2022, this action-oriented framework was broadened during a three-day conference co-hosted by Kenya and Uganda with support from IOM and UNFCCC. The KDMECC addresses escalating climate-induced migration by promoting a shared stance ahead of the Africa Climate Summit and COP 28. Africa’s vulnerability to climate change’s repercussions and its direct influence on migration underscore the urgency of the KDMECC.
