Krishi UDAN 2.0

The Krishi Udan 2.0 has been designed with the aim of transporting foods which are perishable in hilly and tribal areas as well as north-eastern states. It was launched in 2021 by Jyotiraditya Shindiya, Minister of Civil Aviation. This was first announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman in her 2020 Budget Address.

Highlights

About 53 airports were selected under this plan. This airport is operated by the Indian Airport Authority. Additionally, the Indian government has chosen other airports such as Raipur, Guwahati, Leh, Srinagar, Nagpur, Nashik and Ranchi. It is planned to develop transit and transhipment infrastructure at this airport. This plan was developed with support from AAICLAS and Invest India. AAICLAS is a 100% subsidiary of the Airport Authority of India. AAICLAS is the airport management of Indian Cargo Logistics and Allied Services.

Features of Krishi UDAN 2.0

The plan proposes to waive fees such as parking and landing of Indian freighters at some airports. This will open up new opportunities for growth in the agricultural sector. It helps to remove barriers to the logistics, transportation of agricultural products and supply chains. Facilitate the development of hub and cargo network models to strengthen cargo-related infrastructure on and off airports. The Hub model refers to a distribution scheme in which a centralized hub exists. It pools resources by creating a convergence mechanism of various departments and regulators. Provides incentives and benefits to freight carriers, airlines and other stakeholders to improve Agriproduct?s air travel.

An online platform called EKUSHAL has also been developed to facilitate the dissemination of information to all stakeholders in the transportation of agricultural products. It has also been proposed to tie up EKUSHAL and the National Agricultural Market (eNAM).

A2A model of Krishi UDAN 2.0

This plan uses an agro-aviation model. It connects two sectors. This has been made possible by the use of drones in agriculture, the future use of biofuels in aircraft, and the agricultural products integration into various initiatives such as the Krishi UDAN.

Benefits of Krishi UDAN 2.0

This plan will help achieve the goal of doubling farmers’ incomes by opening new opportunities for growth in the agricultural sector and removing barriers to supply chains, logistics and transportation of agricultural products. This will also help solve the problem of recycling food waste in the country’s agriculture.

Launched Trade Routes

Under this plan, the Indian government will open seven new trade routes which are, Darbhanga to all India for litchis, The Amritsar-Dubai route is to be launched for baby corn, Chennai-Vizag-Kolkata to the East for seafood, Agartala-Delhi-Dubai for pineapple, Sikkim to all India for organic produce, Guwahati-Hong Kong for fruits and pulses and Dibrugarh-Delhi-Dubai for Mandarin oranges.
