Assam’s Women Entrepreneurship Initiative Lakhpati Baideo

Assam launched the ‘Lakhpati Baideo’ initiative aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma initiated this scheme by distributing cheques to 23,375 women under the Mukhyamatri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. This marks step towards financial independence for women in Assam. A total of 2.7 million Self-Help Group (SHG) members are set to benefit from this scheme.

Mukhyamatri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan

The Mukhyamatri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan is a comprehensive support scheme for women entrepreneurs. It provides seed capital to women to encourage self-employment. The initial amount distributed is Rs. 10,000. This capital aims to help women start their businesses and become financially independent.

Phased Financial Support

The scheme offers a phased financial support model. In the second year, successful beneficiaries can access Rs. 25,000. This includes a bank loan of Rs. 12,500 and a state grant of Rs. 12,500. In the third year, successful entrepreneurs can receive up to Rs. 50,000. The government will also cover the interest on bank loans to ease the financial burden on the beneficiaries.

Additional Support Mechanisms

The Assam government provides various additional supports. This includes free schooling and admissions for girls. Livelihood support is extended through schemes like Orunodoi. The government also offers pensions and free food grains for elderly women. These initiatives create a multi-layered approach to women’s empowerment.

E-Commerce Platform for Women

To enhance entrepreneurial activities, the Assam government has established an e-commerce platform. This platform aims to facilitate online business for women entrepreneurs. It provides them with the necessary tools to reach a broader market.

Education and Health Initiatives

In addition to financial support, the government has introduced educational incentives. Students from poor families will receive Rs. 300 monthly to assist with tuition costs. Health initiatives include special health camps across the state. These camps aim to provide affordable healthcare and promote healthy lifestyles.

Investment in Agriculture

The government has also committed to buying paddy at Rs. 2,550 per quintal and mustard at Rs. 6,450 per quintal. This agricultural policy aims to support local farmers and ensure fair prices for their produce.

Community Health Initiatives

Health camps are being organised in every Gram Panchayat and urban area. These camps provide free health check-ups and essential medicines. The aim is to promote health awareness and nutrition among the population.
