L&T Bags Order in Bullet Train Project
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged a contract worth Rs 1390 crore for the country’s first bullet train project. L&T has bagged the contract from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

- Larsen & Toubro (L&T) – IHI Infrastructure Systems Consortium has got a contract for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor.
- L&T has bagged the contract for the procurement and fabrication of 28 steel bridges for Crossing Over Rivers, railway lines, roads, highways, and other structures for the Mumbai Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor.
- L&T has bagged the contract from NHSRCL which is responsible for executing the bullet train project.
- As per NHSRCL, about 70,000 MT of steel will be used for the fabrication of 28 steel bridges.
- The steel manufactures will be providing steel for the fabrication of structures for these steel bridges.
- The financial bids for the procurement of steel bridges order were opened on December 18, 2020.
- A total of eight bidders participated in the bidding, out of which 4 were qualified.
- The qualified bidders were Afcons Infrastructure Limited, Tata Projects Limited, Larsen & Toubro – IHI Infrastructure Systems Consortium, and NCC Limited.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor is 508 km long and will operate at speed of 320 km/hour, passing through areas in Gujarat, Maharashtra, as well as Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The total distance is expected to be covered in 2-3 hours and will cover 12 stations along the route. The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
