On February 24, 2023, RAdm Sandeep Mehta, ACWP&A, oversaw the launch of the Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge Yard 75 (LSAM 7) at the Guttenedevi launch site of M/s SECON in Visakhapatnam. This significant event highlights the strong commitment to the “Make in India” initiative of the Ministry of Defence.
Indigenous Manufacturing
MCA Barge Yard 75 (LSAM 7) is a testament to the capabilities of indigenous manufacturers. It features major and auxiliary equipment/systems sourced entirely from Indian manufacturers, underlining the nation’s self-reliance in defense production.
Contract with M/s SECON
The construction of eight MCA Barges, including Yard 75 (LSAM 7), was awarded to M/s SECON, Visakhapatnam. This partnership aligns with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiatives of the Government of India. These barges are designed to have a service life of 30 years.
Supporting Operational Commitments
The availability of MCA Barges such as Yard 75 (LSAM 7) is expected to greatly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy (IN). These barges will facilitate the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to IN ships, whether alongside jetties or at outer harbors.
