Various Initiatives under NMEICT
Several initiatives have been introduced under the NMEICT to serve different educational needs. Some of the most notable ones are as follows:
The SWAYAM Platform
The Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds’ (SWAYAM) serves as an integrated platform for offering online courses. These courses span various levels, covering school (9th to 12th) to Postgraduate Level. Not only are these online courses being used by students, but also by teachers and non-student learners seeking lifelong learning.
SWAYAM Prabha
SWAYAM Prabha is an initiative to provide 32 high-quality educational channels through DTH (Direct to Home) across the country, operating on a 24X7 basis.
National Digital Library of India (NDL)
With more than 3 crore digital resources available, the National Digital Library of India (NDL) is a project developed to create a virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility.
Spoken Tutorial
Spoken tutorials are 10-minute long audio-visual videos designed to improve the employment potential of students. Available in 22 languages, these tutorials focus on open-source software and are intended for self-learning.
Free and Open Source Software for Education (FOSSEE)
FOSSEE is a project that promotes the use of open-source software in educational institutions. It achieves this through a range of resources, including spoken tutorials, textbook companions, awareness programs such as conferences, training workshops, and internships.
Project E-Yantra
E-Yantra is an initiative aimed at enhancing education across engineering colleges in India with a focus on embedded systems and robotics. More than 275 colleges across India have benefited from this initiative.
Virtual Lab
The Virtual Lab project aims to create a fully interactive simulation environment to perform experiments, collect data, and answer questions to assess the understanding of the knowledge acquired. About 225 such labs are currently operational, with more than 1800 experiments that have benefited over 15 lakh students.
