Ministry of Mines Launches SATYABHAMA Portal for R&D

The Ministry of Mines has recently launched SATYABHAMA (Science and Technology Yojana for Atmanirbhar Bharat in Mining Advancement), an innovative portal aimed at fostering research and development within the mining and minerals sector. This move signals a significant step towards advancing India’s mining industry by promoting scientific exploration and effective resource management.

Goals of the SATYABHAMA Portal

The central objective of launching the SATYBHAMA portal is to bolster the efficiency and effectiveness of the Science and Technology Programme Scheme. The primary function of this scheme, as managed by the Ministry of Mines, is to stimulate research in applied geosciences, mineral exploration, mining, and other related areas. It also seeks to encourage optimal utilization and conservation of the nation’s mineral resources.

Funding Opportunities via the Portal

An additional advantage offered by the SATYBHAMA portal is the provision of funding by the Ministry of Mines. The beneficiaries of these funds include academic institutions, universities, national institutes, and R&D institutions recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, which operates under the Ministry of Science and Technology. These financial resources are intended to facilitate the implementation of R&D projects within the noted sectors.

Portal Functionality and User Interface

The SATYBHAMA portal provides a platform for online submission of project proposals. Beyond that, it also allows for efficient monitoring of these proposals and the judicious utilization of allocated funds. The design, development, and implementation of the portal was managed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), a reputable institution dedicated to providing comprehensive informatics solutions and services to all levels of government.

Integration with NGO Darpan Portal

Moreover, the SATYBHAMA portal is seamlessly integrated with the NGO Darpan Portal of NITI Aayog. The NGO-DARPAN is a unique platform that facilitates interaction between Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) or Voluntary Organizations (VOs) in India, and prominent Government Ministries, Departments, and Bodies.
This e-governance application, provided by NITI Aayog, ensures electronic maintenance of data and promotes transparency concerning the operations of NGOs/VOs in the country. Notably, the NGO-DARPAN portal was previously managed by the erstwhile Planning Commission that was replaced by the NITI Aayog effective from 1st January 2015.

This launch represents an important milestone for the Indian mining industry. By enhancing the connection between scientific research, funding institutions, and governmental oversight, it promises to pave the way for significant progress in the exploration and management of India’s rich mineral resources.
