MoUs Approved by Cabinet

Recently, the Union Cabinet has approved two MoUs in different sectors. One MoU is with France and the other is with Fiji. The agreement with France has been approved for Renewable Energy Cooperation while that with Fiji has been approved for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sectors.

India-France MoU

  • Union Cabinet has approved the India-France agreement in the field of renewable energy cooperation.
  • The MoU was signed in January 2021.
  • The MoU includes
  1. exchange and training of scientific and technical personnel;
  2. exchange of scientific and technological information and data;
  3. organization of workshops and seminars; transfer of equipment, know-how and technology;
  4. development of joint research and technological projects.

This agreement will be helpful in achieving the target of 450 GW of installed Renewable Energy capacity by the year 2030.

India-Fiji MoU

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare of the Republic of India and Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Fiji for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sectors.
  • Areas of cooperation under the MoU are-
  1. Exchange of research personnel, scientific experts, specialists, and technical trainees;
  2. Enhancement and transfer of technology;
  3. Development of infrastructure for agriculture development;
  4. Development of human resources through training of officers and farmers by conducting seminars and workshops;
  5. Promotion of joint ventures between private sectors of both countries;
  6. Promotion of investment in marketing and value addition/downstream processing of agricultural commodities;
  7. Promote capacity development in all areas of agriculture;
  8. Promotion of direct trade of agriculture products through market access;
  9. Joint planning and development of research proposals and execution of research projects and programmes;
  10. Establishment of Indo – Fiji Working Group for dealing phytosanitary issues, and any other form of cooperation which will be mutually agreed by the Parties.
  11. Under the MoU, a Joint Working Group (JWG) will be constituted to set down procedures and plan and recommend programs of cooperation towards achieving its aims through the Executing agencies of the two countries. The JWG will hold its meeting alternately in India and Fiji once every two years.

This MoU will remain in force for a period of 5 years from the date of signing.
