In recent headlines, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) introduced the CHAMPIONS portal. This innovative platform is designed to empower and facilitate MSMEs, increasing their output and national strength through the creation and harmonious application of modern processes.
Understanding CHAMPIONS Portal
The CHAMPIONS system is an acronym for Creation and Harmonious Application of Modern Processes for Increasing the Output and National Strength. This technology-driven Control Room-Cum-Management Information System makes full use of state-of-the-art information and communication technology (ICT) tools. Besides ICT tools like telephone, internet, and video conferencing, the system is augmented with Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Machine Learning features.
Integration with Centralized Public Grievances Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS)
The CHAMPIONS portal is fully integrated on a real-time basis with the Government of India’s main grievances portal – Centralized Public Grievances Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), as well as other web based mechanisms of the Ministry. The entire ICT architecture of the portal was created in-house with assistance from the National Informatics Centre.
Hub and Spoke Model of Networked Control Rooms
The portal relies on a network of control rooms, established following a Hub & Spoke model. The principal hub is located in New Delhi within the Secretary MSME’s office, whilst the spokes are spread across various offices and institutions of the Ministry in different states.
Purpose of the CHAMPIONS Portal
The primary objective of the CHAMPIONS portal is to assist Indian MSMEs in becoming national and global leaders. It plans to achieve this by resolving their grievances, providing encouragement, support, help and guidance for their advancement.
The Three Basic Objectives
The CHAMPIONS portal has been designed with three fundamental objectives in mind. The first one is to support MSMEs by assisting them with finance, raw materials, labour, permissions, and more during challenging situations. The second objective is to help these enterprises explore new opportunities, such as the manufacturing of medical accessories and products like Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs), masks, and more. The third aim is to promote ‘the sparks’, that is, those MSMEs that demonstrate potential to withstand challenges and rise as national or international champions.
The CHAMPIONS portal represents a crucial step forward in the power progress of Indian MSMEs, providing them with the resources and guidance they need to become national and global leaders.
