Mushroom Cultivation Boosts Health in Assam District

In Assam’s Kokrajhar district, a revolution in the agricultural sector has taken place. This is all thanks to the Mushroom Mission launched in 2021. This initiative, under the ‘one district one Product’ scheme, has introduced mushroom farming and inclusion of mushrooms into midday meal programs.

The results are remarkable. Mushrooms, rich in various nutrients, have helped reduce cases of underweight, wasted, and anaemic children by 56%, 55%, and 76%, respectively. It doesn’t stop there, maternal mortality rates have also fallen by 72.37%, and infant mortality rates have seen a decrease of 30.56%. High in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, mushrooms are a healthy choice for weight management and boosting immunity.

Fibonacci Spirals in Plants: Facts and Misconceptions

Plants have long been believed to display patterns known as Fibonacci spirals, observed in leaves and reproductive structures. However, recent studies on fossilised plants dating back 407 million years have debunked this belief. Non-Fibonacci spirals were discovered in this ancient plant species, suggesting a different evolutionary history of spiral arrangement in certain plant groups like clubmosses.

While the Fibonacci sequence remains prevalent in ferns and flowering plants, this research highlights the variety in nature’s patterns and enlightens us about the mystery of these arrangements.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has announced a continuation of legacy names for their Chandrayaan-3 mission. Following the unfortunate crash of the Chandrayaan-2 lander named ‘Vikram,’ ISRO has decided to retain the same name for the upcoming mission’s lander.

Chandrayaan-3’s lander will bear the name ‘Vikram,’ honouring Vikram Sarabhai’s immense contribution to India’s space program, and the rover will be named ‘Pragyan’. The launch is slated for mid-July 2023, and ISRO looks forward to the critical experiments and data collection that will be accomplished through its various payloads.
