Nandakini River

Nandakini River

In Uttarakhand’s Chamoli, heavy rainfall led the Nandakini River to surpass its danger level in the Nandanagar area. The river is a major tributary of the Ganges and holds deep cultural and religious significance. Originating from Nanda Devi Sanctuary’s glaciers, it merges with Alaknanda River at Nandprayag after a 105-kilometer journey. Surrounded by the Himalayas, including Nanda Devi and Trisul peaks, the river’s region features ancient temples like the Nandprayag Temple, constructed by philosopher Adi Shankaracharya. It’s also home to biodiversity-rich areas, Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks, renowned for unique ecosystems and rare flora.
