The 34th annual Inception Day of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) was recently held in New Delhi. Established on the 11th of March, 1986, NCRB is committed to equipping the Indian Police with Information Technology (IT). One of their key responsibilities includes the collection, maintenance, and analysis of the country’s crime data.
NCRB: An Overview
Charged with being an authentic source of information on crime, accidents, suicides, and prisons for policy matters and research, NCRB plays a critical role in shaping policy decisions. The bureau also holds the mantle of being the apex nodal agency for all fingerprint-related matters in India. This includes the accreditation of Fingerprint Experts in the country.
In a bid to upgrade the Indian Police force, NCRB conducts regular training in IT and Fingerprint Science. These training programs are open to both Indian Police Officers as well as Foreign Police officers.
Orang National Park: A Bastion of Wildlife
Located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River in the Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam, the Orang National Park spans over 78.81 square kilometers. Also known as Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, this space was granted the status of a National Park in 1999, albeit being established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1985.
Orang National Park is recognised as the 49th Tiger Reserve of the country as per the notification released in 2016. Often referred to as the mini Kaziranga National Park due to the resemblances in landscapes, the park is the only stronghold of rhinoceros on the north bank of the Brahmaputra river.
According to estimates from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) from January to March 2017, Orang’s tiger density stands at 35.44 tigers per 100 sq km. This could potentially elevate Orang National Park as the park with the highest Tiger density in the country, a position currently held by Kaziranga National Park.
Fact Table
| Park | Tiger Density |
|---|---|
| Orang National Park | 35.44 per 100 sq km |
