Nepal President releases special anthology on Mahatma Gandhi.
The President of Nepal, Bidhya Devi Bhandari, has released a special anthology on Mahatma Gandhi- ‘My understanding about Gandhi’ or the “Maile Bujheko Gandhi” was released at a special function at Rashtrapati Bhawan in Kathmandu on November 9, 2020. The anthology was launched during a ceremony at Kathmandu. Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra was also present on the occasion.
Highlights
The book was brought out by the Embassy of India along with the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation. It was done to share the values of the Mahatma’s universal teachings with Nepali people. The publication pf the anthology was done with a hope to bring the youth of Nepal closer to Mahatma Gandhi. This pictorial anthology in the Nepalese language has been released to celebrate 151st Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It will also mark the two years long celebrations of ‘150 years of Mahatma’.
150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
150th year of Gandhian anniversary was celebrated in the year 2019. On the occasion, the central government had given the call of “Swachhta Hi Sewa”. The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was also celebrated in Dhaka in the year 2019. The High Commission of India had organised a bi-Cycle Rally at the Dhaka University campus on the occasion. The bi-cycle rally was inaugurated by Riva Ganguly Das, the High Commissioner of India and Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University .
Gandhi’s views on Sanitation
Gandhi ji not only took forward the struggle for India’s independence but also led a continuous struggle for sanitation, cleanliness, and efficient management of all categories of wastes. In his book called ‘Guide to London’, Gandhi jo quote- “Cleanliness is next to godliness”. He also developed a movement in South Africa to destroy the twin ‘evils’ of ‘Untouchability’ and ‘insanitation’. To raise the awareness, he did the scavenging himself.
