The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has recently rolled out guidelines for a new initiative, City Finance Rankings 2022. Alongside this, a ‘City Beauty Competition’ scheme was also launched with the objective to acknowledge and reward the transformational contributions made by cities and wards in India towards constructing beautiful, innovative, and inclusive public spaces.
Understanding the City Finance Rankings 2022
City Finance Rankings 2022 is an assessment intended to measure the financial performance of participating cities based on 15 indicators. These indicators fall under three main municipal finance assessment parameters, namely Resource Mobilization, Expenditure Performance, and Fiscal Governance.
Cities will be categorized into four population groups for evaluation purposes. The categories include cities with populations above 4 million; between 1 to 4 million; from 100,000 to 1 million; and under 100,000. Each city will be ranked at the national level based on their scores within these population categories.
The top three cities from each category will receive recognition and rewards not only at the national level but also within their respective states or state clusters.
