Senior IPS officer Kuldiep Singh has been named as the new Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by the government.
Key Points related to Kuldiep Singh
- At present, Kuldiep Singh is the Special DG of CRPF.
- The post of DG was vacant following the superannuation of A.P. Maheshwari on 28th February.
- Singh is a 1986 batch officer of the West Bengal cadre.
- He has been appointed up to September 30, 2022, when he will superannuate.
DG National Security Guard
- M.A. Ganapathy has been appointed as the DG of the National Security Guard (NSG).
- Ganapathy is an IPS of the 1986 batch of Uttarakhand cadre.
- He has been appointed to the post up to February 29, 2024.
- The post of DG, NSG was vacant from October 2020 after the retirement of then DG A.K. Singh.
The notification of the appointment for both officers was issued on March 16 after clearance from the Prime Minister-led Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
CRPF
CRPF is the largest central armed police force in the country. It was formed in 1939 and operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
National Security Guard
NSG is a counter-terrorism unit that operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). It was formed in the year 1986. The NSG personnel are also referred to as The Black Cats.
