In a pivotal move to improve the management of food distribution at a national scale, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has initiated an all-new central sector scheme, termed as the Integrated Management of Public Distribution System (IMPDS). Nation-wide Portability: One Nation, One Ration Card
One of the primary goals of the IMPDS is the implementation of nation-wide portability of ration cards. This move aims to allow beneficiaries to lift foodgrains from any fair price shop (FPS) across the country, thereby ensuring that access to food is not restricted by geographical boundaries. By moving towards ‘one nation one ration card’, the scheme aims to simplify the process for beneficiaries while promoting inclusion.
Creation of a National Level Data Repository
The IMPDS also targets the creation of a national level data repository. This component of the scheme will involve de-duplication of beneficiary data based on Aadhaar numbers. The establishment of a single source of valid beneficiary data will pave the way for streamlined distribution mechanisms and decreased potential for misuse or fraudulent activities.
