NIPERs Submit Research Proposals for COVID-19 Treatment

The National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) have submitted several multi-level research proposals aimed at combatting the Covid-19 global pandemic. These submissions are geared towards identifying, treating and containing the virus. Besides these research proposals, various NIPERs have been engaged in several innovative projects, such as the creation of hands-free devices for touchless control of doors, drawers, and elevators by NIPER Guwahati.

About National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs)

NIPERs are nationally renowned institutes under the supervision of the Department of Pharmaceutical, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. There are seven active NIPERs located at Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Hajipur (Bihar), Kolkata (West Bengal), Guwahati (Assam), Mohali (Punjab), and Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh).
The main vision of NIPER is to take an active leadership role in pharmaceutical sciences and associated areas on both a national level and international reach, especially in South East Asia, South Asia, and Africa.

NIPER Mohali and Its Associations

NIPER Mohali is part of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The Association of Indian Universities, which formed as the Inter-University Board (IUB) in 1925, comprises all universities in India. It plays a significant role in advancing and developing higher education within the country.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities is an international organization devoted to cultivating a productive world through quality higher education. This association spans over 50 countries across the Commonwealth.

Key Areas of Research

The research focus areas for NIPER encompass tuberculosis, malaria, diabetes, leishmaniasis (a disease triggered by the protozoan Leishmania parasites), and immunomodulation (therapeutic interventions devised for modifying the immune response). These critical areas are considered as the thrust areas of scientific exploration and inquiry.

Innovation Beyond Research

Apart from innovative research proposals aimed at fighting Covid-19, the institutes have also taken significant strides in other aspects. For instance, NIPER Guwahati has created a “hands-free device” that allows touchless access to doors, drawers, and elevators; a significant invention amid the ongoing pandemic where limiting physical contact is paramount.

The rigorous efforts of these pharmaceutical education and research institutes underline their dedication to orchestrating an effective counter-attack against the global health crisis caused by the Covid-19 virus. With their continuous research and inventive solutions, they are leaving no stone unturned towards the fight against this deadly virus.
