The Indian state of Manipur has been facing a severe crisis that disrupted the supply of essential goods and commodities to the region. However, in a commendable display of dedication and cooperation, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) has taken significant steps to ensure the delivery of vital items to Manipur. In association with the state’s transport department, the railway authority successfully dispatched the first goods trains carrying food grains and other essentials to the newly established Khongsang station.
Railway Authority’s Unwavering Commitment
Despite the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur, the Northeast Frontier Railway has remained committed to supporting the supply of essential items to the region. Recognizing the crisis’s severity, the railway authority stepped in to address the situation with the cooperation of the state government.
Restoring the Cut-off Supply
The crisis had entirely cut off the movement of essential goods to Manipur, leading to a shortage of critical supplies. However, NF Railway’s intervention provided a glimmer of hope by facilitating the transportation of food grains and other essential commodities to the affected region.
Freight Train Operation
To fulfill its commitment to supply essential items during the crisis, the Northeast Frontier Railway operated a dedicated freight train. This freight train was equipped with 11 wagons, including potatoes from Dhupguri, sugar from Azara, and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) items from New Guwahati, catering to the immediate needs of the people in Manipur.
Special Case for Piecemeal Re-booking
In response to the Manipur government’s request, the Indian Railways granted a special case for piecemeal re-booking of wagons. This allowance enabled more flexibility in transporting commodities, ensuring a smoother and more efficient supply chain.
Khongsang Station: A Crucial Connection
Khongsang station, established in 2022 as part of the Jiribam-Imphal new line project, played a pivotal role in receiving the goods train. This new railway station has become a lifeline for the people of Manipur during the crisis, facilitating the delivery of essential goods.
Chief Minister’s Support
The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, along with several other ministers and senior officials of the state government, actively participated in receiving the goods train at Khongsang station. This gesture reflects the state’s appreciation for the efforts made by NF Railway and Indian Railways.
Assisting Traders through Railway
To further aid Manipur-based traders in booking commodities through Railways, a Marketing Inspector has been specially deputed in Imphal. This move ensures that traders have round-the-clock support for any queries or assistance related to the transportation of goods.
