Odisha’s ‘Gift Milk’ Initiative

The state of India of Odisha has launched a new initiative to enhance its milk procurement capacity. This program aims to increase daily procurement from 500,000 litres to 1,000,000 litres. The initiative was inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on January 13, 2025. It focuses on improving rural livelihoods, boosting livestock productivity, and addressing nutritional challenges in the region.

Cattle Induction Program

The Cattle Induction Program is a key component of the initiative. Under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, 3,000 high-genetic-merit cattle were distributed to beneficiaries in Mayurbhanj district. Gift Milk Program

The Gift Milk Program was launched to combat malnutrition among children. Approximately 1,200 schoolchildren in Mayurbhanj will receive 200 ml of flavoured milk fortified with Vitamins A and D. This initiative aims to improve children’s health and nutritional status while promoting education.

Market Support Program

The Market Support Program will strengthen milk procurement, processing, and marketing in Odisha. This initiative includes building branding and distribution networks. It aims to ensure better financial returns for farmers and enhance the overall dairy economy in the state.
