In a significant move to promote and support local artisans and products, the One District One Product (ODOP) program under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has partnered with the e-commerce platform Groyyo. This collaboration aims to onboard aggregators selling ODOP-identified products on the Groyyo platform, providing greater visibility and market access to these unique products.
Strengthening District Identity and Visibility
The collaboration between ODOP and Groyyo is a step towards strengthening the identity of each district and showcasing its unique products to a wider audience. By bringing ODOP products onto the online platform, this collaboration offers an opportunity for sellers to gain insights into the requirements and preferences of buyers, enabling them to make their products more marketable at a global level. This increased visibility and market access can open up new avenues for growth and economic opportunities for artisans and entrepreneurs.
A Diverse Collection of Artisanal Products
Already, a diverse collection of artisanal products representing different parts of the country has been onboarded on the Groyyo platform. These products include ceramics from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, coconut products from Kozhikode in Kerala, kani shawls from Budgam in Jammu and Kashmir, and bell metal craft from Bastar in Chhattisgarh. The presence of such a wide range of products reflects the rich cultural and artistic heritage of India. Going forward, the platform aims to expand its categories to include wellness, jewelry, and more, offering a comprehensive showcase of ODOP products.
Expanding the Reach of ODOP
With this collaboration, ODOP has joined forces with over 35 brands, covering around 100 districts across the country. This signifies the growing recognition and adoption of the ODOP program, which plays a crucial role in creating sustainable employment opportunities at the district level and promoting holistic socio-economic development. By bringing these products to a wider audience through the Groyyo platform, ODOP is expanding its reach and impact, contributing to the growth of rural entrepreneurship and realizing the vision of an AtmaNirbhar Bharat.
The Significance of ODOP
The ODOP program was launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in 2018 with the aim of unlocking the full potential of districts, fostering economic and socio-cultural growth, and generating employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas. This initiative has identified a total of 1102 products from 761 districts across the country, highlighting the immense diversity and entrepreneurial potential of each district. By integrating the ODOP initiative with the “Districts as Export Hub” program implemented by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and the Department of Commerce, ODOP has found a valuable partner in DPIIT to further its objectives.
