Online Gaming Industry Unites to Establish Skilled Online Games Institute (SOGI)

Online gaming companies have joined forces to create the Skilled Online Games Institute (SOGI) with the aim of countering negative perceptions and dispelling “misinformation” surrounding online real money skill gaming.

SOGI’s Prominent Backing

SOGI boasts prominent individuals from online gaming firms on its board, and it also enjoys support from the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) and the eSports Players Welfare Association (EPWA). The institute is actively seeking academics who can cover a wide range of topics, including industry, social, legal, and psychological aspects.

Academic Partnerships

In an effort to provide training in the technical, managerial, and legal aspects of the gaming industry, SOGI has partnered with prestigious institutions like IIM Bangalore, IIT Roorkee, and the National University of Judicial Sciences Kolkata. Additionally, it plans to collaborate with various international institutions.

SOGI’s Mission

SOGI’s mission is to serve as a knowledge repository encompassing all facets of the gaming industry, both positive and negative. This repository will facilitate informed and balanced discussions, enabling Indian companies to participate in the industry responsibly while competing on a global scale.

Addressing the Impact of Misinformation

Amrit Kiran Singh, President of SOGI and a veteran with over 20 years of experience as CEO of Jack Daniels in South and Southeast Asia, emphasizes the potential harm caused by negative perceptions fueled by misinformation. He highlights the importance of providing accurate information to counter such perceptions.

Promoting Fact-Based Decision-Making

Singh believes that for the gaming industry to continue growing in a regulated manner, it is vital for the industry to ensure the availability of accurate data and information. He underlines the need for decisions related to the industry to be based on solid facts rather than misconceptions.

Collaboration with Regulators

SOGI is committed to collaborating with regulatory bodies to minimize the negative impacts of misinformation. The institute also aims to share its knowledge with relevant stakeholders and the wider community.
