Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commended the Union Cabinet’s decision to include the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project of Uttarakhand in the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme, a move he described as a significant step toward prosperity and sustainability for both Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The government’s approval for the project’s inclusion under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (PMKSY-AIBP) comes with a price tag of Rs 2,584 crore.
The Vision of the Project
The Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project is designed to construct a dam near Jamrani village, spanning the River Gola, a tributary of the River Ram Ganga in Nainital district, Uttarakhand. The dam will supply water to the existing Gola barrage through a 40.5 km length of canal system and a 244 km long canal system that was completed in 1981.
Affordable Fertilizers for Farmers
Additionally, the Prime Minister applauded the government’s announcement of a Rs 22,303 crore subsidy on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers for the current rabi season. This Cabinet decision is poised to make fertilizers more accessible to farmers at affordable prices, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the agricultural sector.
A Strengthened Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership
In another notable development, Prime Minister Modi lauded the Union Cabinet’s approval of a memorandum of cooperation between India and Japan on a Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership. This memorandum of cooperation was initially signed in July.These approvals and initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to promoting agriculture, infrastructure development, and economic partnerships for the benefit of the nation.
