PM to address Global Climate Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Global Climate Summit on December 12, 2020. The Global Climate Summit is being organised on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Paris Climate Agreement.
Paris Climate Agreement
This agreement is a multilateral climate change process. This is a binding agreement that has brought together all nations for a common cause. These nations undertake the ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects. This agreement is a legally binding international treaty on climate change. This was adopted by 196 Parties on December 12, 2015 at the twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) in Paris. This agreement came into effect on November 4, 2016.
Global Climate Summit
- This Global Climate Summit is being organized and called by the United Kingdom, United Nations and France in partnership with Chile and Italy.
- The Summit will highlight the fast-growing coalition of region, cities, countries, businesses and investors who are committed to the net-zero emissions.
- The summit would also try to boost the ambition in climate finance, resilience and its adaptation.
- It will feature leading examples of countries that produces concrete near-term plans and policies in order to deliver the long-term climate ambition.
- It will highlight the work for other countries so as to deliver a new Nationally Determined Contributions through 2021 way ahead of COP26.
COP26
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference is also known as COP26. It is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference. It will beheld in Glasgow, United Kingdom from November 1 to 12, 2021. It will be headed by the United Kingdom Government.
