A cetacean translation initiative is Project CETI. The main goal of the project is to talk to various majestic marine animals of the globe.
Highlights
The CETI project makes the use of artificial intelligence with the aim to interpret the sounds which are made by majestic marine animals as well as whales. Whales communicate with each other using a specific buzzing sound. The CETI project records such noise and explains what it means.
Workings of the Project
The CETI project uses natural language processing or artificial intelligence NLP. Natural language processing helps computers understand as well as read human languages. Can understand both spoken and written language in different human languages. Current natural language processing includes spell checking, voice messaging, auto-complete, spam filtering, Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, and related keyword search engines.
As part of the project, researchers will use natural language processing technology to train computers in 4 billion sperm whale coder. A whale coder is an acoustic signal produced by a whale. Each sound is assigned to a specific context. Whales dive into the abyss and communicate far away. And whales, especially sperm whales, have six times as many brains as humans. Therefore, it is important to decipher the whale’s communication.
