Revamped Microdata Portal

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) recently launched a revamped Microdata Portal. This initiative took place during the Conference of State Government Ministers. The new portal aims to improve data accessibility and user experience. It integrates advanced technologies into the Official Statistical System. The portal serves as a central repository for statistical data collected from national surveys and the economic census. This upgrade addresses technological limitations faced by the previous portal.

Collaboration with the World Bank

MOSPI collaborated with the World Bank Technology Team to develop the new portal. A modern and scalable technology stack has been adopted. This ensures compliance with the latest security standards. The portal also supports a responsive design for better user interaction.

National Statistical System Training Academy

Alongside the portal, MOSPI launched the website for the National Statistical System Training Academy. This platform provides easy access to information regarding capacity-building initiatives by the ministry. The website consolidates resources in one place.

In-House Development by Data Informatics Division

The development of the portal and the website was carried out in-house by the Data Informatics & Innovation Division of the ministry. This approach allows for tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of users.

AI/ML-Based Classification Tool

MOSPI also presented a Proof of Concept for an AI/ML-based classification tool. This tool aims to simplify the use of the National Industrial Classification (NIC) in producing official statistics. It utilises natural language processing. Stakeholders can enter text queries and receive suggestions for relevant NIC codes. This innovation reduces manual effort and increases the productivity of enumerators. It leads to more accurate data collection, enhancing planning and policy-making.
