Ro-Pax service between Hazira-Ghogha in Gujarat to be flagged off by PM Modi.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the Ro-Pax terminal at Hazira on November 8, 2020. He will also flag off Ro-Pax service between Hazira and Ghogha in Gujarat through video conferencing.


This is a big step that takes forward the Prime Minister’s vision of harnessing waterways and integrating them with the India’s economic development. During the event, Prime Minister will also interact with local users of the service.

Hazira-Ghogha Ro-Pax ferry service

This ferry service would be working as a gateway towards South Gujarat and Saurashtra region. The ferry service seeks to reduce the distance between Ghogha and Hazira to 90 Kilometres from earlier 370 kilometres.


The reduced travel time will lead to savings of fuel approximately by 9000 litres per day. It will also be beneficial to the environment as it will reduce the CO2 emission by approximately 24 million tonnes per day. Further, it will provide an impetus to the tourism industry by easing the access to the Saurashtra region. Apart from that, it will also create new job opportunities.

Other benefits

After the Ferry service would start, the port sector, furniture and fertilizer industries in Saurashtra and Kutch region will get a big economic boost. Eco-tourism and religious-tourism in Gujarat in Porbandar, Somnath, Dwarka and Palitana region would grow exponentially. The enhanced connectivity through  will also lead to increased inflow of tourists in the famous Asiatic lion wildlife sanctuary at Gir.

Ghogha Region

Ghogha is town in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. The town is situated on the mid-western bank of the Gulf of Khambhat. It is also known as Gogo. Gogo was an important historical commercial port on the Arabian Sea . It is also a famous fishing hamlet.

Hazira Region

Hazira is a transshipment port in the Surat City. The town is the west most end of Surat. It is one of the major ports and an industrial hub of India. The town is locted  on the bank of the Tapti River.. It is a centre for health tourism.
