SAHAJOG Initiative

The Odisha government launched SAHAJOG on May 1, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance access to government welfare schemes for the urban poor. The programme seeks to bridge the gap between urban poverty and available state assistance through various strategies.

Objectives of SAHAJOG

SAHAJOG has clear objectives. It aims to identify eligible beneficiaries in urban areas. The initiative will ensure these individuals benefit from social welfare measures. The focus is on facilitating access to 14 key welfare schemes. These include housing, food security, water supply, and health services.

Pilot Project Success

Target Areas and Beneficiaries

The initial rollout targets 44 ULBs across eight districts. These districts include Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Bhadrak. The focus is on areas with higher urban poor populations. Approximately 15 lakh residents are expected to benefit from this initiative.

Operational Framework

SAHAJOG will operate under a fast-track, campaign-mode approach during its first two months. Community volunteers and frontline workers will be incentivised based on performance. This strategy is designed to ensure active involvement in execution.

Coordination and Governance

Interdepartmental committees have been established for effective coordination. These committees will operate at both State and district levels. District Collectors will chair the district committees. This governance structure aims to streamline the execution of the initiative.

Alignment with Development Goals

SAHAJOG aligns with broader developmental goals. It is part of the Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat missions. The initiative aims to accelerate inclusive growth and enhance social welfare across urban sectors.

Future Expansion Plans

The initiative is expected to expand over time. Future phases will aim to cover all ULBs in the state. The goal is to ensure comprehensive welfare access for all urban poor residents in Odisha.
