SCO Calls for Enhanced Cooperation, Reviving Silk Road

Recently, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) convened the Eurasian Economic Union gathering. The purpose of the meeting was to advocate for enhanced collaboration in technology, communication, and development among its participant countries. Of notable interest was China’s Belt and Road Initiative, a topic that led India to abstain from the meeting despite its presence at the SCO summit. A contemporary resurrection of the ancient Great Silk Road in Eurasia figured prominently on the agenda. A highlight of the summit was a discussion on tourism and economics, where the idea of an Eight Wonders Exhibition Tour by SCO member states was proposed. Each country will feature one historical monument or site on the tour’s brochure.

Highlighting Historical Monuments

During the Eight Wonders Exhibition Tour discussions, each country presented one significant historical site to be highlighted on the tour pamphlet. For example, Kazakhstan chose the Petroglyphs of Tamgaly, while China selected the Daming Palace of the Tang Dynasty. Not to be outdone, India’s contribution was the towering 182-metre Statue Of Unity of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The Great Silk Road: An Ancient Trade Network

The ancient Silk Road served as a crucial network of trade routes that linked regions of the ancient world and facilitated commercial activities. This iconic pathway, operating from the 2nd century BC to the 14th century AD during China’s Han dynasty rule, spanned from China, reaching through India to Mesopotamia, Africa, Greece, Rome, and even Britain.
