India is set to take a giant leap in the world of semiconductors and chip design innovation as it gears up to host ‘Semicon India 2023’, a prestigious exhibition in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The event, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will witness the participation of prominent companies from around the globe, showcasing India’s remarkable progress in nurturing a robust semiconductor manufacturing and design ecosystem.
What is Semicon India?
Semicon India is an annual conference organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The primary objective of this conference is to promote the growth and development of the semiconductor industry within the country. It serves as a platform to demonstrate India’s capabilities in semiconductor design and manufacturing, fostering networking and knowledge exchange among industry stakeholders. By bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers, Semicon India plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of India’s semiconductor landscape.
Major Investments by Tech Giants
The event has attracted significant investments from tech giants, signifying their trust in India’s semiconductor potential. Micron Technology, a global leader in memory and storage solutions, is investing a staggering $825 million in a semiconductor assembly and test plant in Gujarat. Similarly, Applied Materials, a key player in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, is dedicating $400 million to their Engineering Collaborative Centre. These investments are expected to create new opportunities for the Indian semiconductor sector, opening doors for innovation and employment.
Global Participation
‘Semicon India 2023’ has garnered attention from 23 countries, with participants from various Indian states like Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
