Delhi University organized an event to commemorate 90 years of the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru on March 23. During the event, Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank paid homage to Bhagat Singh in the chamber located in the basement of the Viceregal Lodge of the University where he was imprisoned.

- Also, an existing collection of books on freedom fighters has been converted into Shaheed Smriti Pustakalaya. This library can be accessed by students and teachers of the university.
- Vice-Chancellor of DU, P.C. Joshi said that the Bhagat Singh Smarak will remain open to students and the university community to inculcate values of freedom and sacrifice.
- During the event, tribute was paid to Bhagat Singh and his associates through patriotic songs by students and faculty members of the Music Faculty.
- Various students who had won awards in competitions related to Shaheed Diwas were also felicitated in the event.
Shaheed Diwas
March 23 is observed as the Shaheed Diwas in India. On this day, three freedom fighters- Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were hanged to death by Britishers. Thus, the day is celebrated as Shaheed Diwas to pay homage to these three freedom fighters whose sacrifice encouraged many people to fight for freedom.
