On World Youth Skills Day, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) commemorated the fourth anniversary of the Skill India Mission. The celebrations served as a platform to reveal the team participating in the World Skills International Competition, set to be held in Kazan, Russia, from 22nd to 28th August 2019. Furthermore, the event marked the launch of an innovative Degree Apprenticeship Program and the establishment of a new Japan India Institute for Manufacturing (JIIM) in Haryana. This occasion also saw the unveiling of new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) courses focusing on Electric Vehicles (EVs).
The Skill India Mission
Instigated in 2015, the Skill India Mission is an ambition of the Government of India that aims to furnish the youth with necessary and enriching skill sets. The primary intention behind this initiative is to enhance employability and productivity within the work environment amongst youngsters.
Launch Of The Degree Apprenticeship Program
The Degree Apprenticeship Program is a collaborative brainchild of the MSDE and the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD). This program integrates apprenticeship or on-the-job training into a three or four-year University degree program. The goal is to provide a comprehensive learning experience combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
New Japan India Institute for Manufacturing (JIIM) in Haryana
The announcement of the establishment of a new Japan India Institute for Manufacturing (JIIM) in Haryana marked another milestone in the celebrations. The JIIM is expected to act as a catalyst in facilitating technical education and employment opportunities, thereby contributing towards economic growth.
New ITIs Courses On Electric Vehicles
In a bid to work towards greener energy sources, new courses on Electric Vehicles (EVs) in ITIs were announced. The advent of these courses is anticipated to boost knowledge around sustainable energy sources and promote the use of electric vehicles.

World Youth Skills Day
Declared in November 2014 by the United Nations General Assembly, the 15th of July is observed as World Youth Skills Day (WYSD). This global observance underscores the relevance of skills for enhancing young people’s transition to decent work. It also highlights how skilled youth can tackle today’s most challenging global issues. The World Youth Skills Day 2019 focused on the theme “Learning to learn for life and work.”
