Southern Railway’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Southern Railway’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Southern Railway has taken a significant step towards station development by identifying 90 stations to be developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). This scheme aims to improve railway stations on an ongoing basis, with a long-term vision to enhance facilities and amenities for passengers. With the objective of providing a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, the ABSS will prioritize the preparation and implementation of Master Plans for selected stations.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: A Vision for Station Development:

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) represents a comprehensive approach to station development, encompassing a wide range of aspects to improve passenger facilities. The scheme aims to go beyond the provision of minimum essential amenities by developing and implementing Master Plans that cater to the specific needs of each station.

Integration of Previous Redevelopment Projects:

The ABSS will incorporate and subsume all previous redevelopment projects where work is yet to commence. This integration will ensure that the efforts put into previous initiatives are not wasted and that the development process continues seamlessly. By consolidating these projects, the ABSS streamlines the station development process and ensures efficient utilization of resources.

Selective Station Identification and Approval:

The responsibility of selecting stations for development under the ABSS rests with the zonal railways. These zonal railways will propose stations for inclusion in the scheme, which will then be approved by a committee of senior railway officials. This collaborative approach ensures that stations with the most pressing needs and potential for improvement are identified and prioritized.

Footfall and Stakeholder Input as Key Factors:

In the selection and approval process, factors such as footfall and inputs from stakeholders play a crucial role. Stations with high passenger footfall and those catering to specific needs, such as tourist destinations or major transit hubs, will be given priority. Additionally, the involvement of stakeholders, including passengers, local communities, and railway officials, ensures that the development plans align with the requirements and expectations of all parties involved.

Low-Cost Redevelopment and Timely Execution:

The ABSS adopts a model that emphasizes low-cost redevelopment, ensuring that the allocated resources are utilized effectively. This approach enables the timely execution of development projects, minimizing delays and ensuring that passengers can enjoy the improved amenities at the earliest. The focus on cost-effective solutions facilitates sustainable and efficient station development across the Southern Railway network.

Enhanced Amenities and Upgraded Infrastructure:

Under the ABSS, new amenities will be introduced, and existing facilities will be upgraded and replaced as necessary. The aim is to provide passengers with a comfortable, convenient, and modern travel experience. This includes improved waiting areas, seating arrangements, clean and hygienic washrooms, well-maintained platforms, enhanced security measures, and access to essential services.

Phased Implementation and Budget Allocation:

The ABSS envisions the phased implementation of the Master Plans for selected stations. As each phase is executed, new amenities and infrastructure upgrades will be introduced, further enhancing the passenger experience. The allocation of budgets and approval of plans will be based on factors such as footfall, stakeholder input, and the prioritization set by railway officials. This ensures that resources are allocated wisely, maximizing the impact of station development efforts.
