Tampara Lake

Tampara Lake

The National Green Tribunal, Eastern Zone, has ordered the Odisha government to cease “illegal” construction near Tampara Lake, a significant freshwater lake in Odisha. Tampara Lake showcases the ecological richness of the region, connected to the nearby Chilika Lagoon. Hosting diverse flora and fauna, it’s home to 60 bird species, 46 fish species, various phytoplanktons, and more. This ecosystem is crucial for vulnerable species like Cyprinus carpio, common pochard, and river tern. The lake is marked in the Wetland Atlas by the Ministry of Environment. The National Green Tribunal, established by the National Green Tribunal Act 2010, seeks to expedite environmental cases.
